"In our own words" was the phrase companies used to use when they had something new to announce. We at the 48grams blog love these little traditions. So today, we're also writing in our own words. There's a premiere. After extensive testing and numerous stages of evaluation... we're presenting our first facial oil. A miracle weapon against skin aging, dryness, and the wrinkles that life leaves on our faces: "Liquid Youth" is its name. We'll be introducing the product and its ingredients in three installments. Today, it's all about jojoba oil.
Against inflammation and for skin balance
This oil is truly fascinating. Unlike other plant oils, its composition closely resembles the natural sebum of our skin. This makes the golden-yellow liquid the ideal active ingredient for a 48-gram formulation: The ingredients penetrate deep into the skin layers and build up a moisture reservoir there. This makes jojoba oil perfectly suited for treating dry skin. Dermatologists have also discovered that the oil has a balancing effect on the tissue's natural sebum production and is anti-inflammatory. In short: Anyone suffering from oily skin or acne simply cannot ignore this wonder ingredient.
Kyle Jenner and the Jojoba Cure
Another advantage is its light texture – it allows for rapid absorption (i.e., uptake into the tissue) without leaving a greasy residue. No wonder social media queen Kylie Jenner swears by it: she only uses products containing jojoba oil, which she applies to her face, neck, and décolletage before bed. She recently revealed this in her Instagram story – essentially becoming the face of the oil overnight. Speaking of oil, here's a fascinating tidbit: jojoba isn't actually a liquid. It's more of a thick wax extracted from the seeds of the jojoba shrub. However, since the wax liquefies at just 6 degrees Celsius (43 degrees Fahrenheit), it produces the oil we know.
Strength and resilience
The background information is also very interesting; it's practically synonymous with the product's effects. The jojoba plant (Latin: Simmondsia chinensis) is native to the desert regions of North America, to inhospitable areas such as the deserts of Mexico, California, and Arizona. This plant, which belongs to the juniper family, is extremely adaptable and can thrive under extreme conditions. This adaptability is also reflected in its active ingredients – and clearly explains why the oil is so important for the new 48grams product, "Liquid Youth."
The Jojoba Revival
Jojoba is indeed experiencing a kind of revival. Experts and dermatology enthusiasts have long known about this liquid gold, but only now is this wonder substance receiving the recognition it deserves. We say: What a stroke of luck for our skin! Because nature is still the best healer. The indigenous peoples of North America knew this too. The first documented mention of jojoba oil can be found in the writings of Francisco Hernández de Toledo, a Spanish physician and naturalist. He traveled through what is now Mexico in the 16th century and described how the locals used the oil to treat skin diseases and care for their hair. From him we also know the plant's name and meaning: "Jojoba" comes from the language of the Tohono O'Odham people. They called the plant "Ho-ho-wi," which means "wreath" in English. Francisco Hernández de Toledo adopted this name, which later became "Jojoba" (since in Central America the spoken "h" in Spanish is a written "j").
From Jojoba and Rosa Canina extract
Now you – or rather, you all – dear readers, know everything there is to know about the fascinating jojoba oil. We at the 48grams blog are thrilled that it's part of the "Liquid Youth" formula – and we're already using it extensively. Next week, we'll be writing about Rosa Canina extract – the second key ingredient in our new facial oil.
