The roots of 48grams go back to the 1980s. At that time, chemical engineer Bernd Kuhs began experimenting with new approaches to skincare. He soon questioned whether the successful products of the time – full of emulsifiers and preservatives – were truly good for the skin, or whether they were actually impairing the tissue's natural protective function. This search for alternatives ultimately formed the basis for a novel technology: biomembrane technology.

A clear commitment to nature

For many years, Kuhs worked as a developer for other brands. But his desire to consistently implement his own philosophy ultimately sparked the founding of 48grams. Together with a group of investors, he launched the brand in 2021. The guiding principle was – and remains – uncompromising quality and a clear commitment to nature.

Handwork is the factor

Therefore, production still follows a traditional, artisanal approach. Formulas are developed in their own laboratory in Mallorca, mixed in small batches, modified and improved – and finally bottled by hand. Every product – every cream, every serum, and every mask – is based on the genuine work of experienced craftspeople. Only a perfect product is allowed to reach the market. This artisanal character distinguishes 48grams – industrial mass production like that of large corporations will never, and never will, play a role.

Mallorca as origin

Another cornerstone of Kuhs' company philosophy is the origin of the raw materials. As many ingredients as possible come from the soils of Mallorca. Bernd Kuhs has a strong sense of local pride – but also understands the quality of the active ingredients found on the Balearic island. The aloe cultivated there, for example, forms the basis of many products. This means that 48grams products are formulated with the world's finest aloe. Only grape seeds ripened under the Mallorcan sun are used for the Antioxidant Booster Serum. The legendary salt plants of the local salt pans also play an important role: the Bacillus ferment is extracted from them. This is a key component of the Eye Cream. These local sources are complemented by shea butter and olive oil extracts. Everything is rooted in Mediterranean tradition.
