Behind the name lies nothing less than the first pure oil that 48grams is bringing to market: "Liquid Jade" is pure Tamanu oil.
Green gold and its effects
For those who aren't yet shouting "Yeah!" and "Finally!", here's a brief explanation: Tamanu oil – in some regions poetically called "Green Gold of the Pacific" – is a complex plant oil. More on its origins later. The important thing is its effect. And here, the "Yeah!" is truly justified: Tamanu contains an extremely rare combination of natural active ingredients: linoleic acid, oleic acid, calophyllic acid, and inophyllode. This mixture has a powerful anti-inflammatory (and antioxidant) effect, but above all, it quickly and thoroughly soothes skin irritations. Anyone suffering from acne, scars, or even eczema should consider Tamanu as their first choice. Users regularly report a smoother, more even skin texture.

But the Tamanu tree – also known as "Indian laurel" (lat. Calophyllum inophyllum) – grows in tropical coastal regions. The fruits from Polynesia and Madagascar are considered particularly potent. These trees can be harvested twice a year. The farmers pick plum-like fruits, which contain a hard pit. After a fermentation process lasting several weeks, this pit is cold-pressed. Et voilà: This is how the Green Gold is created.
A liquid like jade
This also clarifies the origin of the name: "Liquid Jade" The name refers to the color of the liquid. Fitting – in Asian symbolism, jade represents purity, protection, and permanence. These are qualities that perfectly suit the character of this oil. Speaking of character: Tamanu has a heavenly, natural fragrance – it smells slightly nutty and reminiscent of wood and sunshine. From fishermen to 48grams customers
Finally, a brief historical note: Tamanu oil has been used as a natural skin care remedy for centuries. Polynesian fishermen used it, and still use it, to soothe their skin. It wasn't until much later – in the 1920s – that French scientists began to investigate its effects. They noted that the oil promotes skin regeneration and is extremely effective against inflammation. It wasn't until 40 years later that dermatological studies confirmed these observations.
