We all dream of radiant, smooth skin. And everyone – not just the readers of our 48grams blog – knows that a balanced diet, sufficient exercise, plenty of sleep, and adequate hydration are the foundations for healthy tissue. And, of course, the right skincare. But it's not just about knowing the best products. Serums, creams and masks That alone makes the difference. It's also about the application and the correct order. Basically, each of us only needs to follow the sequence of three words: Wash! Care! Protect! That's the simple but effective foundation.
The order makes the difference
Before we get straight to the point, a few more words about the correct application of skincare products, or more precisely, about maximizing their effectiveness. Always remember: products like creams and oils form a barrier that prevents serums from optimally releasing their active ingredients. This dictates the order of application. We call it the "liquid to solid" principle.
Step 1: Cleaning
The foundation of any skincare routine is always cleansing. This applies in the evening after a long day, but also in the morning to remove traces of perspiration from the night. Gentle treatment of the skin is extremely important. Please avoid using (too) hot water (it damages the skin's protective barrier) and never rub your face dry; pat it dry instead. But which cleanser should you use? It must, of course, be suitable for your skin type. For dry skin, a gentle cleansing milk or a creamy cleansing gel is ideal. These products often contain moisturizers like aloe or hyaluronic acid. Foaming cleansers, by the way, dry out the skin even more. For oily skin, on the other hand, a lightly foaming gel Micellar water is a good choice. This removes excess oil and clarifies the pores. Combination skin often requires a balanced cleansing routine. A light gel helps to cleanse oily areas while simultaneously preventing dry areas from becoming even more dry. Last but not least: Cleansing milk, light gels, or micellar water are suitable for normal skin types.
Step 2: Toner
After cleaning comes toner: A alcohol-free toner with soothing ingredients Toners like chamomile or aloe vera are excellent for skincare. Ideally, put a few drops on a cotton ball and gently sweep it over your face and neck. Alternatively, you can put a few drops of toner in your hands and pat it onto your skin. If you take your time, you'll soon feel wonderfully refreshed.
Step 3: Exfoliation (1 to 3 times per week)
For effective skincare, we recommend exfoliating with exfoliants like AHA or BHA. In short: AHA stands for alpha hydroxy acid, better known as fruit acid; it works against enlarged pores, evens out skin tone, and combats skin aging. BHA is short for beta hydroxy acid. These are oil-soluble acids that promote the growth of new skin cells by removing the top layer of skin. The choice between AHA and BHA is a personal one. Both types offer excellent protection for the face. The exfoliant should be applied gently and massaged in carefully. Excessive pressure on the skin is a no-go, as this can lead to irritation.
4.Step: Masks (2 to 4 times per week)
Let's move on to our 48grams favorite products: the masks. These are truly versatile skincare products that perfectly address the specific needs of facial tissue. Moisturizing masks, enriched with hyaluronic acid or aloe, ensure optimal hydration. Clay masks, on the other hand, regulate sebum production, absorb excess oil, and refine pores. Antioxidant masks revitalize the skin by combating free radicals and promoting a youthful glow. Depending on skin type and condition, different masks offer tailored care for a healthy and radiant complexion.
Step 5: Serums
Serums play a crucial role as the fifth step in the skincare routine. Highly concentrated formulations contain active ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, OPC (a grape seed extract).) or enriched with vitamin C. The choice of serum should be made according to individual skin needs. Vitamin C promotes brightness and radiance, hyaluronic acid provides intense hydration, while OPC is being hyped as a new anti-aging agent. Application is simple: Apply a small amount of the serum to the face and neck and spread it evenly. The light texture allows for rapid absorption without weighing down the skin. Serums penetrate the skin deeply and deliver effective ingredients directly to the target areas.
Step 6: Eye cream
Let's move on to the sixth step in a truly comprehensive care routine: Eye creams are specifically for the formulated for sensitive skin around the eyes. They aim to reduce fine lines, dark circles, and puffiness that often appear in this area. Eye creams minimize irritation and help prevent the formation of wrinkles. Key ingredients include hyaluronic acid, vitamin C, and caffeine. These active ingredients revitalize and strengthen the skin, giving it a fresher appearance and a radiant glow. Similar to serums, less is more. We at 48grams use the cream like this: a small dot on the tip of your index finger, then gently massage it into the tissue under your eyes.
Step 7: Moisturizer
We're almost done. The penultimate step is using a high-quality moisturizer. The choice of product should be based on your individual skin type. Generally speaking, we recommend light formulas for oily or sensitive skin and richer ones for dry skin. If you want to pamper your face, pay attention to... Ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, Glycerin and ceramides. Hyaluronic acid creates a moisture reservoir in the skin, while glycerin binds moisture. Ceramides strengthen the skin barrier and protect against moisture loss. To ensure optimal absorption, a light massage is essential during application. Simply apply several small dabs to your cheeks, T-zone, and forehead, then work the product into the skin using circular motions.
Step 8: Sunscreen (in the morning)
Sunscreen is the essential final step in every (morning) skincare routine. We at 48grams recommend a broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30. But it is better SPF 50. This is the only way to effectively protect the skin from harmful UVA and UVB rays. The so-called "protection cream" is applied generously to the face, neck, and other exposed areas of skin. Regular use not only protects against sunburn but also helps minimize the risk of skin cancer. Our advice: Sunscreen should be the last step before applying makeup every morning. This creates a reliable barrier against environmental influences.
