Achtung, Wechselwetter! Jetzt die Pflegeroutine ändern!

Attention, changing weather! Change your care routine now!

One day warm, the next cold; one day rainy and damp, the next sunny and hot. Add to that the constantly changing air pressure… In technical terms, this is called changeable weather. For people with migraines or rheumatism, this is a well-known problem. But few people realize that our facial skin also suffers from this phenomenon. Such conditions – like those currently found everywhere in Germany – impair the skin barrier and lead to redness or dryness. That's why we at the 48grams blog are now raising awareness!

Understanding the needs of the skin

Recognizing and understanding the needs of our facial skin is the first step towards a successful skincare routine. After all, the skin doesn't just react to internal factors like health, vitamin deficiencies, or lack of sleep. External factors (temperature, sun exposure, humidity, and air pollutants) are at least as important. Although we're currently at the end of spring, the weather is behaving as unpredictably as it usually does in April. Therefore, it's especially important to support the skin with a skincare routine that can adapt flexibly to these changes.

The ritual of cleansing

We say it again and again: Gentle cleansing is essential. Products that are too harsh dry out the skin and, in the worst case, irritate it. Only a (Gentle) pH-neutral cleaner (ideally with the best aloe) Removes dirt and excess oil – without damaging the skin's protective barrier.

A toner for preparation

After cleaning comes toning. It removes any remaining residue and prepares the fabric for subsequent care. The favorite products of the 48grams editors all contain hyaluronic acid. or formulated with glycerin. The positive effect is that the skin can retain an additional amount of moisture. To clearly establish the connection to changing weather: In times of high humidity, a light, clarifying toner is preferable; in dry air, a rich, hydrating toner is more suitable.

The heart of every skincare routine

Anyone rethinking their skincare routine – or perhaps even creating a new one – should always start by choosing the right cream. It's the heart of the system. However, it needs to be adapted to changing weather conditions. Yes… every single day! In cool, dry periods, rich creams with ingredients like shea butter or ceramides are ideal. These form a protective barrier and prevent moisture loss. On warm days, when humidity is higher, lighter lotions or gels are the better choice. They absorb more quickly and don't leave a greasy residue. We at 48grams rely on… Products containing hyaluronic acid or niacinamide (vitamin B3). This also soothes the skin.

Protection from the sun

We preach it again and again – and never tire of it: Regardless of the weather, sun protection is essential. UV rays will cause damage even on cloudy days. Broad-spectrum protection (with a sun protection factor of at least 30 – 50 is better, though.Sunscreen ensures that the skin isn't damaged. Otherwise, wrinkles, age spots – or even cancer – can result. Surely nobody wants that. Sunscreen shouldn't just be applied once a day on vacation – when sunbathing directly or swimming in the sea, it's essential to apply it two or three times a day.

Masks and special oil

Two or three times a week, a mask should complement your skincare routine. Ingredients like aloe vera or hyaluronic acid provide intense moisture and soothe the skin. This applies regardless of the weather. Quality is paramount. Those who skimp and buy masks that dry out after just a few minutes will achieve the opposite effect on their skin: protection becomes damage. One more tip: To maximize the benefits, treat yourself to an additional moisturizer afterward. Light oils with z.B. Jojoba- or squalane are ideal for nourishing the skin without weighing it down.

Adapting the routine to the weather

Flexibility is key. We're not saying this to wag our fingers – it's meant as well-intentioned advice. If you want to maintain your skin's glow, you have to be able to adapt. Even when the weather forecast is unpredictable. The basic principle is this: on cold and dry days, you need double the moisturizing, while on hot and humid days, lighter products are sufficient.

Hydration – but from the inside

Finally, a tip from women who tend to forget to drink at work: Besides external care, internal hydration also plays an important role. Drinking enough fluids (preferably water or tea) supports the tissue from within. This doesn't mean, by the way, that an Aperol Spritz is always off-limits…
